What’s New at Asbury Church Planting?

February 2, 2026

How does Christ build His church in the midst of war?

In November 2025, the Center for Church Multiplication sponsored a gathering of 40 church planters from throughout Ukraine. Participants represented a range of denominations and contexts, but they all had one question in common, “How does Christ build his church in the midst of war?”

Over three days, participants heard five case studies from pastors who recently planted new congregations in Kyiv, Odesa, Izium, and Khust. Every context was very different. Presenters talked openly about the challenges and opportunities they experienced.

After each case study, presenters and participants gathered in small groups to discuss what they heard, ask questions, share practical tools, and pray for one another and their communities.

This was the kind of format pastors had been longing for: plenty of informal interaction, space for honest questions, deep conversations, sincere prayer, and a place where one could simply be themselves and share the true story of their ministry.

The Center for Church Multiplication sponsors gatherings like this all over the world. In 2026, we will work with local partners to sponsor gatherings for church planters in Brazil, the Balkans, East Africa, and Asia.

But don’t wait for us! How can you be a catalyst for learning together in your context?

A felt need for increased dialogue about church multiplication among church planting practitioners in your region could be an indicator that the time is right to invite local church planters to gather together and share ideas and case studies in a spirit of humility, curiosity and grace. Learning together was transformative in Ukraine. Could that happen in your city too?

CCM Resource Recommendation

One way that God is building his church today is when people study Scripture together, apply what they learn, and share it with others. This often happens in small groups. Participants may or may not be familiar with the Bible, but they want to learn more. They are curious. They want to discover who God is and what he has to say. In Discovery Bible Studies, participants typically discuss seven questions as they look at Scripture together. Sound interesting? Give it a try!

I am always that Asbury is working with church planters around the globe. Praise be unto our God for such a great work. However, as I viewed the plan for 2026, I am wondering if West Africa could be considered, particularly Liberia, where lots of church planting activities are ongoing since the establishment of the Global Methodist Church in 2025. Is there any plan for us?
