JOB DUTIES
Vision Leadership
The Pastor of Family Discipleship provides leadership and vision for Immanuel’s ministries for parents, youth and children, seeking always to serve the vision of Immanuel Anglican to “lift high the Son of God in the city of Chicago that all would be drawn to Him.”
1. Cast and implement a compelling and practical vision for Immanuel’s next generation ministries, including for:
- Children: Christian formation of the children at Immanuel (birth-5th grade).
- Youth: Christian discipleship for the youth of Immanuel (6th-12th grade).
- Parents: Support for parents in the work of discipling their children.
- Family Outreach: The mission of reaching unchurched families in Chicago.
2. Initiate and maintain relationships that promote growth in leadership capacity, spiritual vitality and professional competence:
- Consult as needed with a leadership coach.
- Seek regular counsel from a spiritual director and other pastoral care providers to promote spiritual growth and health.

Family Discipleship

- Coordinate connection points for parents to fellowship with one another and, when possible, with older parents who can provide mentorship and encouragement
- Seek out and publicize “easy yoke” opportunities for parents to grow in spiritual leadership of their families

Volunteer Leadership
The Pastor of Family Discipleship recruits, screens, inspires, equips, shepherds and coaches volunteers who can faithfully shepherd children and youth through their teachings and life example.
- Recruit volunteers to serve in the nursery, children’s chapel and youth ministry
- Screen potential volunteers according to Immanuel’s safety policies before permitting to servce
- Inspire volunteers to remain centered on the vision of Immanuel’s youth and children’s ministries, and the significance of their work in passing the Gospel to the nex generation
- Equip volunteers to teach and lead Sunday morning classes and to acitevely participate in safeguarding our children and youth
- Shepherd volunteers by getting to know them personally and building deeper relationships with them. Regularly pray for volunteers and look for opportunities to point them to Jesus
- Coach lay ministry leaders to lead events, ministries, and initiatives, as their passion and maturity align with ministry needs. Meet regularly with those who are leading within family ministry to reconnect to vision, plan initiatives, and pray together
Next Gen Administration
The Pastor of Family Discipleship builds processes and systems that enable Immanuel’s family ministries to grow in size and effectiveness.
1. Communication with parents:
- Send regular updates to parents
- Maintain children’s ministry portion of website/Immanuel Online; keeping information current and helpful to parents and visitors
- Coordinate new family handouts and oversee distribution of paper announcements
2. Online Promotion: Work with Communications Director to strategically manage Immanuel’s online presence and web representation of Family Ministries to reflect vibrant community life and demonstrate warm welcome to new parents and families.
3. Volunteer Management:
- Move new volunteers efficiently through the on-boarding process
- Keep background checks up to date (renew every three years)
- Manage volunteer schedules for Sunday mornings and events
- Maintain records of leadership documents for each volunteer
4. Budget Management:

- Monitor spending to keep to the budget provided

Summary/Objective:

CHILDREN’S PASTOR – FIRST METHODIST CHURCH (COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI)
Job Summary:
The Children’s Minister is responsible for the coordination of all areas of ministry having to do with children from birth through 5th grade. The Children Minister works with the Children’s Ministry staff and leadership team to plan, organize, and implement activities for to help children become and live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities & Duties:
The Children’s Minister primary focus with the Children’s Ministry team is the planning and coordination of special events including but not limited to:
- Vacation Bible School
- Easter Egg Hunt
- Special summer time activities
- Fall Kickoff event
- Spring Wrap-up event
- Fall Festival – with other churches
- Christmas Programming
- Annual Children’s Retreat
- Recruit and equip volunteers to help with the above events as well as with week-to-week activities such as Sunday programs and Wednesday Night program.
- Coordinate, train, and supervise workers and volunteers for the church nursery.
- Fill in as needed if a teacher, helper, or nursery worker is unable to work.
- Work with the Associate Pastor in the selection and implementation of an engaging, appropriate curriculum for all children to be used in Sunday programs and Wednesday Nights.
- Coordinates and works alongside the Adult Pastor in the training of Acolytes.

- Attend and represent the interests of children and parents at the weekly Staff meeting.

- Provide communication to parents concerning upcoming programs, events, timely information and events through the publication of a monthly newsletter for children as well as weekly communications as needed.

- Coordinate, prepare, recruit volunteers for the children’s program music.
- Prepare an annual ministry budget to be approved by the Church Council, manage ongoing/operating expenses, and supervise fundraising events as needed.
- Keep regular and appropriate office hours to meet the needs of the children and families, and staff, of the church.
- Oversee recruitment, training, support, and celebration of all children ministry volunteers, and ensure all volunteers have completed and are following the safety policies of the church and conference.
- Oversee all forms of ministry communication, including but not limited to email, letters, text and social media.
- Oversee all administrative duties, including event registration, meal and transportation planning/scheduling, record keeping, and facilities/vehicle management.
- Coordinate or lead the children’s moment for the first and second service on Sunday.

MUSIC MINISTER – FIRST METHODIST CHURCH (COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI)
Job Summary:
To develop and lead the worship music ministry for FMC in consultation with the Lead Pastor and other team members in a way that is consistent with sound, progressive and authentic Christian spirituality.
Time Commitment:
This is a full-time salaried position. Sundays and holidays are a must. Rehearsal times with choirs and groups as arranged to act in all areas and receive input and guidance from Lead Pastor.

The Bethesda Methodist Church (an Independent Methodist Church) is in the process of searching for candidates who would be interested in being considered for the Pastor position at our church. Our current pastor that has led our church for 16 years is stepping down due to age and health issues. Our pastor has served our church as a part-time pastor but was able to serve us exclusively due to being a retired full-time minister. In 2023 our church dis-affiliated from the United Methodist Organization, and we have been operating independently since that time. The Church has a parsonage next door to the church which can be made available to the new Pastor/Family
The Church is offering the position as full time (initially part time would be considered based on timeframe etc.) with the main goal to bring people to Christ and grow the church within the community of Bethesda (population 1200) and surrounding communities.
