The Associate Pastor shares in the broader pastoral work of the church, including occasional preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and participation in the leadership structures of TCC.

Primary Responsibilities

A. Family Ministries Leadership (Pre-K through Young Adults)

B. Pastoral Ministry

  • Preach as assigned and provide pulpit supply during the Senior Pastor’s absence.
  • Teach adult Sunday School or midweek classes as assigned.
  • Provide pastoral care as assigned, including hospital and homebound visitation, crisis care, and non-clinical pastoral counseling.
  • Assist in worship services, including Scripture reading, prayer, communion, baptisms, dedications, weddings, and funerals.
  • Support churchwide discipleship initiatives and congregational gatherings.

C. Ministry Coordination & Leadership Development

  • Supervise assigned lay-led ministries, including but not limited to family ministries.
  • Support volunteer leaders with clarity, encouragement, and accountability.
  • Help coordinate church wide events.
  • Strengthen alignment with TCC’s mission and values.
  • Work collaboratively with ministry leaders to ensure communication and unity.

D. Governance & Staff Collaboration

  • Serve on the Pastors’ Board.
  • Serve on the Joint Pastors & Trustees Committee.
  • Align family ministries with the churchwide vision.
  • Maintain healthy communication and partnership with the Senior Pastor and staff.

E. Facilities, Safety, and Compliance

  • Coordinate with Trustees/Facilities Coordinator regarding ministry-related facility needs.
  • Participate in Spring and Fall Workdays in a pastoral/supportive capacity.
  • Ensure that Family Ministries environments meet safety and compliance standards.

F. Other Duties

  • •Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Pastor in accordance with the Bylaws and the needs of the congregation.

Professional Qualifications

  • The candidate should ideally have experience in children’s, youth, or family ministry (paid or volunteer), leading or training volunteers, teaching in church settings, pastoral care and visitation, and coordinating ministry programs or events. Experience across multiple age groups is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in biblical education or Christian ministry is required.
  • The candidate must be an ordained Christian minister or willing to undergo the process of ordination in accordance with TCC bylaws.
  • The candidate should demonstrate, or be willing to grow in, organizational skills, clear communication, volunteer recruitment and support, and the ability to plan, coordinate, and sustain regular programming and events. Because TCC values long-term pastoral partnership, we are committed to walking with, training, and supporting the Associate Pastor as he grows in ministry. We will stand by him, disciple and invest in him, and help him flourish as he remains faithful to Christ, His church, and the commitments outlined below.
  • The candidate must be a passionate follower of Christ. His relationship with the Savior must be apparent and unmistakable in his life, leaving no question as to the genuineness and effectiveness of his faith. If married, his spouse must likewise demonstrate a relationship with Christ that defines her identity and directs her life.
  • The candidate and his wife must be actively seeking continual transformation in Christ, cultivating a life shaped by prayer, Scripture, worship, accountability, discipleship, service, and obedience.
  • The candidate and his wife must be committed to God’s calling in their lives.
  • The candidate and his wife must feel called to ministry to young people and their families.
  • The candidate and his wife must desire accountability and seek to be mentored and discipled. They must earnestly and willingly seek and receive correction for the sake of Godliness and the building of the Kingdom.
  • The candidate must be wholly committed to Christ and His Kingdom, demonstrating the heart of Christ by desiring the salvation of the lost and earnestly sharing the gospel both within and beyond formal ministry.
  • The candidate must reject all worldly allegiances that rival loyalty to Christ and must model a life governed by Scripture rather than by cultural, ideological, or political identities.
  • The candidate must maintain a holy and Christlike public witness, including in his social-media presence.
  • The candidate must demonstrate maturity and relational wisdom.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a servant’s heart, desiring to serve the body wherever there is a need and opportunity.
  • The Candidate must show humility, a cooperative spirit, and a willingness to submit to the leadership of the Church.
  • The candidate must show a shepherd’s heart toward children, youth, parents, and volunteers, and the ability to harmonize with TCC’s overall ministry culture and direction.
  • The candidate must meet the qualifications for ministers as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9: above reproach, faithful in marriage, self-controlled, sober-minded, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, gentle rather than violent, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, managing his household well, and having a good reputation with outsiders. Scripture also requires that a minister not be arrogant or quick-tempered but instead be disciplined, upright, holy, and firmly committed to the trustworthy Word, so that he may encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a genuine desire to grow in life and ministry under the authority of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, and in accountability to the Senior Pastor and the Trustees.

Theological Qualifications

  • The candidate must affirm and uphold the Statement of Faith of Troy Christian Chapel. (https://troychapel.org/our-faith/)
  • Troy Christian Chapel is an interdenominational fellowship centered on Jesus Christ and governed by the authority of Scripture, committed to unity among believers from diverse Christian traditions while avoiding sectarian or denominational partisanship. The candidate must affirm and uphold this identity in doctrine, practice, and ministry.
  • In relation to the above point, the candidate must embrace contextual hermeneutics, recognizing that Scripture must be interpreted in its own literary, historical, and canonical context and not subjected to the exegesis that comes from reading it through a denominational systematic.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a growing proficiency in contextual exegesis, interpreting the meaning and principle of the text according to its literary, historical, and canonical context rather than through doctrinal distinctives, cultural pressures, or emotional appeal.
