PIEHL – Grant (1969 MDiv), age 69, went to be with his Lord on Sept. 29, 2012, at his home. His final resting place will be Casselton Cemetery. Grant John Piehl was born April 15, 1943, in Gaylord, Minn., to Lester and Olive (West) Piehl. He grew up in the Hector, Minn., area and graduated from Hector High School in 1961. He then attended Vennard College and Spring Arbor College in Spring Arbor, Mich., earning a bachelor of arts degree in 1966. He continued his education at Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., graduating with a master of divinity degree in 1969. As a United Methodist pastor, he served at Kulm-Jud from 1969-72, Lansford-Donnybrook-Maxbass until 1976, Bowbells-Kenmare, Coteau until 1982, Langdon-Hannah until 1983, Langdon until 1992, Streeter-Medina-Tappen until 2002, Groton-Conde-Andover until 2005 and Napoleon-Lehr until 2008, when he retired. Grant married the love of his life, Eileen Carol Jonas on Jan. 29, 1966. They moved to the Jonas family farm near Amenia when he retired. He loved playing with the grandchildren, pastoring churches, collecting 1/64 tractors, reading about North Dakota history and visiting with his children. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, Amenia; four children, Latha (Larry) Pederson, St. Michael, Minn., David Piehl, Minneapolis, Joel (Linda) Piehl, Jamestown, and Jeff (Heather) Piehl, Clear Lake, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Brennan and Therin Pederson, Brittney Topliff, Jake, Zach, Nicholas and Ben Piehl and Tyler and Katelyn Piehl; and two sisters, Carrie Tyner, Kansas City, Mo., and Nancy (Steve) Mabuce, St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lorrie Berntson; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Berntson and Don Tyner. Heaven has gained a wonderful person and faithful servant who served God as a United Methodist pastor. He loved his wife and children beyond measure and would have gone to the ends of the earth and back for his grandchildren. He was a gentle giant of a man and was so truly loved and will be greatly missed
