New Room Bands: A 21st Century Take on Christian Discipleship

January 3, 2017

SeedbedJohn Wesley once famously said, “There is no holiness apart from social holiness.” Over the years, many have mistakenly asserted that he was talking about social justice. In reality, he was talking about doing discipleship in the context of real relationships. In essence, you can’t become a real Christian alone.

While we are justified alone before God, we will only be sanctified together. Christian maturity is not a solo journey but a community process. This is the reason for so much arrested development in our faith—we think we can go it alone. We cannot. That’s where this little guide comes into play. Most typical small groups are helpful and provide great context for fellowship and study, but they lack the capacity to lead us into the fullness of the life God has for us. We need something smaller with the capacity for more depth and growth. For discipleship to Jesus to accomplish its full potential, we need micro-community. We must band together with a few other people to help one another to persist in the journey of the second half of the gospel.

That’s where New Room Bands, a brand new web app designed for micro-community discipleship, comes in.

We could type out an explanation of what exactly New Room Bands means and how you might get involved, but we think some videos might say it better.

Walt, take a crash course in micro-community with Mark Benjamin’s Introduction to New Room Bands study, or travel through Awaken or Wake Up, both of which draw on the theme of the “second half of the gospel” and how we can live into it.

Do we focus on the importance of the witness of the Spirit so we can have the power to love one another the way Adonai loves us ????❤️??

So will this booklet ever come back in print? I would love to have copies available for my leadership and ultimately to everyone in my church as we share a vision for real disciple formation

That is a very good question, which is best asked of our Seedbed staff. You can find their contact information here.
